Won a Grammy and took a jab at President Trump: Shakira didn’t hold back with her comments

Following the receipt of the award, Colombian artist Shakira utilized the opportunity to address the prevailing issues in the United States.

On March 22, 2024, Shakira released her twelfth studio album, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.

This album features eight new tracks, a remix, and seven previously released popular singles, including Music Sessions Vol. 53 with Bizarrap and TQG with Karol G. It marks her first studio album in seven years.

To date, the album has amassed 3.7 billion streams on Spotify. During promotional activities, Shakira described the creative process as “alchemical,” expressing that she was able to transform her emotions through songwriting and performance, turning vulnerability into strength and tears into “diamonds.”

Her joy was evident as she took the stage in Los Angeles after winning a Grammy.

However, she chose to prioritize a pressing issue affecting the United States since President Trump assumed office: the challenges faced by immigrants, particularly those at risk of deportation.

“I would like to dedicate this award to all of my fellow immigrants in this nation. You are valued,” Shakira stated, affirming her support for the nation’s immigration policies by declaring, “You matter, and I will always stand with you.”

It is worth noting that Shakira may have overlooked the fact that the president’s focus is primarily on illegal immigrants, not legal ones.

She then expressed gratitude to her two sons, who were present in the audience, concluding her speech with, “I am so proud of you for your kind hearts. I am so grateful for your unwavering support. Thank you, and I love you.”

In her acceptance of the Best Latin Pop Album award, she remarked on the enjoyment she experienced during the performance.

“To be surrounded by so many talented artists and friends at one of the best Grammy editions ever was a dream come true. I look forward to seeing you in May on my tour #LMYNLWorldTour in the US! #GRAMMYs”
